In 1998 I was running three businesses in central New Jersey. The money was good, but my lifestyle left a lot to be desired. I had created an entrepreneurial prison for myself. In fact, it had gotten so bad that after 12-years in business I was waking up with stomach pains on Saturday morning worrying about what headaches I’d have with our employees on Monday.

At 30-years old I felt like I was trapped. I owned my own businesses, the supposed “Holy Grail” of control, and yet I still felt empty, unfulfilled and falling short of my full potential. When I thought about how I’d feel looking back on my life at 80-years old continuing on the same track I was on, I said out loud “there’s got to be a better way!”

Fast-forward five years…

Deb and I were living what most would consider an ideal lifestyle on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. We built and managed a team of 17 people in five different countries to grow two new seven-figure businesses from the middle of the Pacific ocean. Now we live and work where we want, with who we want, and are always in control of our ideal lifestyle.

It hasn’t been an easy road, and there are still big challenges. (The mistake 99-percenters make is thinking that money will solve all their problems. But the fact is the challenges just get bigger. But when you are in the groove, knowing your unique personal formula for success, those challenges energize, mtoivate and move you to higher and higher levels of success.)

For me, along the way, I took those challenges (what I learned from wins and failures,) and with the help of mentors assembled them into a simple, proven system for creating lasting improvements in performance, profits and most importantly — fulfillment. I realized, as you probably have, that it’s not just about the money; it’s about being happy doing what you’re doing.
